Which fruit tree to grow in a pot?

Growing a fruit tree in a pot is a poetic and tasty way to animate a terrace, patio, or balcony. With a good choice of variety and a well-suited pot, it is entirely possible to harvest delicious fruits without a garden.

The most suitable are fruit trees with limited growth, hardy or suited to warm regions. Here are our favorites:

Lemon tree: a classic. It loves the sun, regular watering, and a frost-free winter.
Dwarf fig tree: hardy, generous, very well suited for cultivation in a large pot, with moderate watering.
Olive tree: decorative and symbolic, it bears fruit in a pot if well exposed.
Dwarf peach or apricot tree: compact varieties with spectacular flowering. They require gentle pruning and good exposure.
Pomegranate tree: original, hardy, and ornamental. It offers bright red flowers followed by small fruits.
Kumquat or calamondin: small citrus fruits perfect for pot cultivation, very decorative.

The pot: choose a wide and deep container in natural terracotta, which promotes root breathing. The Cycas Smooth or striated, Cactus, and Camellia models are very suitable depending on the aesthetic sought.

Tips: use a rich and draining mix. Apply organic fertilizer in spring and summer. Water moderately. Prune lightly to control the volume.
